Collaborative and Distance Communication

New technologies make it increasingly easy to stay in touch and connect to people around the globe.  Ustream, a web platform for live video and online broadcasting, allows users to capture video about virtually anything and share it, live, with the online Ustream community. This is having a tremendous impact on amateur news reporting, and the dissemination of information. “Although it’s (Ustream) not the most popular web-streaming service on the market, Ustream offers an attractive new way for Internet broadcasters to connect with audiences, allowing dialogue between users and opportunities to build connections across the globe.”

As an interactive video broadcast platform, anyone can pick up a camera and create their own channel, voicing their opinions about politics and music, or sharing footage of a sporting event to millions of people around the globe. In turn, feedback and dialogue are allowed between users, which creates forums of idea, positive criticism and richer online interaction.

Ustream can also be used as a form of distance education. “The site’s global audience (also) introduces new frontiers for authentic assessment in the classroom … Students can invite family members or community experts to join the conversation, creating a rich dialogue between viewers with multiple perspectives.”

So whether you want to be entertained, learn about something new or hear the perspectives of people from around the world, Ustream is the site to be on.

  1. That sounds like a cool site! I like the idea of things evolving from text to video.

  2. It'll be neat to see how this works in the future when schools want to teach about other cultures. They won't just read about it but they'll watch them and learn from each other through technology.
