Search Engine Optimization

The Web is becoming smarter. Not only can you find a plethora of information about any given topic, but search engine optimization tactics like geotagging, infographics and tracking help you find the information you’re looking for in seconds.

Geotagging, the process of adding a physical location to photos or information, allows users to search information by location, “but it can also be used to create location-based news and media feeds by combining an application like Google Maps with geotagged blogs, news articles and Flickr photos.”

These applications are becoming increasingly popular for mobile devices. You can take photos and upload them directly to social media sites, giving your friends instant alerts with your location. Geotagging has also become popular among Twitter. Twittervision, which combines Twitter and Google Maps, posts real-time tweets on an interactive 3D globe.

Geotagging is becoming a convenience for many people, including business owners who are thriving on location-based programs. “As built in GPS becomes a industry standard in mobile/cell phones, geotagging or specifying your businesses location is a great way to highlight your businesses for the future and for a whole generation of smartphone users.”

  1. Geotagging pictures seems pointless to me unless it's a picture of a building or some other landmark. For a business application though, geotagging is a great thing. Cory Checketts

  2. I wonder if geotagging would or could ever be against you. Only if you were on the run or didn't want to be bothered. It will be interesting to see what continues to come from technology and smart phones. In the PR world, it is nice to know you'd be able to market through the web based on location.

  3. That was super interesting about geotagging. I totally agree with Mackenzie's comment about how in the PR world, it's way nice to know you'd be able to market through web based on location.
