With the help of social media sites and the growing popularity of smart phones, Internet videos are going viral more than ever before. According to ABC News, “People around the world watch videos on the Internet more than three billion times every day, which added up to more than one trillion video views on YouTube in 2011.”
If a video contains children, animals, celebrities, shocking footage or humor, it is bound to go viral. These videos have the power to promote, inspire and call to action. Amateurs are also capturing videos on their phones, often with the idea that family members and friends will be the only ones to see it, only to have them become popular through Facebook and other sites:
